Last night was the championship game 3 in a heated Conference tournament between Wendell and Declo. Coach Kelsey and the Wendell community should be ashamed of themselves with their behavior last night. I get it. They are sick of losing to Declo but their game plan was simple and obvious. Foul Sam Mallory for 32 minutes to take him out of the game. I’m just fine with a good face guarding to make it hard on the opponents best scorer but it was obvious that they were trying to take Mallory out of the game in a different way which they did accomplish. Three Wendell players intentionally fouled Mallory while he was in the air taking his legs out from under him causing him to come down hard and break his arm. As a 17 year old high school kid rolled around on the floor in pain, the coaches were high fiving their players that injured him and the Wendell fans cheered and cheered that this young man was hurt ending his season. It was disgusting and shameful. Coach Kelsey spent more time on the floor complaining to the refs than he did coaching his players. He sets a terrible example for his student athletes. Sometimes wins and losses aren’t the most important outcome to a game Coach Kelsey. I hope you figure that out.
