Just Right!! We don't play very many games in this state compared to other states. Texas plays 15-16 games. Most play 13-14 and all we play are twelve. Many states have everyone making the playoffs but seeding really matters.
I would like to see a 10 game regular season also.... But, I think that playoffs should be an award. Teams feel like they get a participation trophy for making it?
I would be okay with 8 if there's a 10 game regular season. Fact is we play several games less then the rest of the majority of the country and I think it cuts kids short.
IMO, state playoff games should mean that you are a legit top team in your division. Take the league champs and then RPI to fill the eight. In a state with divisions as small as Idaho, state should be eight, as it seems to be in all other sports. For those who want an additional game at the end of the season, create a method of matching teams up. Say, the worst two, possibly with zero wins, play. Try and find matchups that would be equal ability and have chances for close games, be it top or bottom level teams.
@Sven Alskog , I think you have missed another thread already started on this topic. 12 team brackets need to be used. More than 12 allow 2-7 teams in and less than 12 will cut out those Cinderella stories that everyone enjoys.
Conference champs get auto bids and the rest settled by RPI.
Btw, longer seasons can suck for a high school kid. We are playing our 10th season game tomorrow out of our 11 week season before playoffs kick off next week. (Colorado)
I think how Idaho has it set up is best with 8 games and a 9th instead of a bye if you think your RPI will need it.
Completely agree coach. Maybe for the larger cities but where we have kids who play 2-3 sports longer seasons make it tough. Football season already can go into the first few weeks of basketball.....
I agree with Hairy on this one... I think that we are cutting a lot of kids short with the shorter seasons. - I would like to see fewer teams in the post season, but go to a 10 game schedule. I also think that we should be starting our season at the same time the rest of the country starts theirs ( most of the time it is 1 week earlier). That would make is so that teams that play an out of state opponent on week 1/2 start closer to even terms.
I think that the number of playoff teams should be 50% or less....It also obviously needs to be a multiple of 4....
