Looking for some advice on football coaches/programs in western Idaho. Family friend moving to that area and asked me for advice. He has a son that is a freshman and is a good football player. He wants him to go to a smaller school(3A or 2A) with a good program and quality coaches. Obviously wants coaches that are a good role model/example for the kids. I told him I thought probably Fruitland but don't know anything about the program other than they win a lot of games. Somebody else mentioned Homedale? Any advice or recommendations?

I would tell him to stop living vicariously through his son and let his son experience life instead of having it controlled by a Lavar Ball like father. But that's just my opinion. I would expect things like re-sell value and proximity to place of employment might be a little more important than the football team.
This is dumb. If I have a kid that really passionate about football and is good at it, why would I ruin his high school experience by having him play for a terrible coach or a bad program. Do you what you can to send him to a program that will coach him up well and get him a chance at playing past the high school level. This is NOTHING like Lavar Ball.
Playing football is playing football. The experience is what you make it. Helicopter/Lawn Mower parenting at it's worst...
@blakethegreat
wow. Just no.
Rocky, Mountain View, Eagle, Meridian, Boise, Capital, Nampa would all be good options. Just pick one.
OP said smaller school
2a - Declo if the coach is still there. Grangeville if you want to go that far north. McCall has a great coach. West Side, North Fremont are both solid for 2a schools.
3a - Fruitland, Homedale are great for out west. Fruitland is better more consistently. Gooding and a few others out east are very good.
4a - Middleton, Bishop Kelly, Skyline, Vallivue, Hillcrest, I would not go Nampa
He was asking about West Idaho, @Hairyt75 .
I don't know much about the 2A ranks over there, but the 3A is loaded. Fruitland has the history. I think they have gone to 10 of the last 12 state championships. Homedale would be my top choice if I was doing the same thing as your friend. I follow their head coach on Twitter and he's very involved in not only football but the other sports and activities of his school, also seems to be making character a top priority in what he helps build. Parma and Weiser have had good years too but I don't know much about their coaches.
