    Nampa Christian Babies!!!

Nampa Christian should be ashamed of themselves. Talk about teaching kids how to quit when the going gets tough. For those who don't know what I'm talking about Nampa Christian was lucky enough to get an at large bid into the 2A football play in games. There are several schools who would love another week to play football. The 2As went to the RPI system and started allowing at large bids so that teams like Nampa Christian would have a chance to get in and not stay home while a 1-7 team made it instead. But Nampa Christian has decided that they don't feel like driving to Grangeville and getting their butts kicked so they just decided not to play. Please tell me there is some kind of punishment for this? I guess Malad volunteered to take their place and make the long trip to Grangeville. Nampa Christian should have to pay their travel expense. Or how about if you forfeit from one state tournament you forfeit all your sports state tournaments for the year. This does not effect me or my school what so ever, but I think its a real joke and a terrible lesson to teach kids. I guess those private school kids are just soft little entitled babies and they just can't handle one more week of tough football.

Not sure if this was the coaches, players, parents, or school district, but not sure why you even start a football program if you are going to pull something like this. Regardless of weather or no they are going to get beat, high School sports are intended for teaching character and integrity. This should not have been allowed, you don't see Ririe quitting when they have a even tougher game against powerhouse Declo, I guarantee those guys are excited for the opportunity.

I bet it came to a lot of factors and I do not believe the kids bad character is one of them. I for one feel that it was good character of the kids that made this decision. Imagine if Wendell made this decision last year when they went to the playoffs 0-8 and allowed a 4-3 Ririe team a shot. Would you be complaining then? The kids were taught good character choices by their coaches and their parents. Now when they step up and make a decision on what they have learned, you blast them and call them babies or think the decision should not have been allowed and their choices silenced. I think it is your character that is in question. @Lucky#7 @integritystands2014

I agree with Coach Newell. I remember people complaining last year about Wendell getting in. I think it a waste of resources for a team that is obviously going to get beaten badly to take the kids out of class, pay for travel and lodging, etc... In a state this sized, this expansion of more than eight teams is rarely necessary, as even with eight, the seven and eight teams are highly unlikely to win a first round game.

Unlikely to win so don't show up? Yup that sounds like the lessons we want to teach our kids. The fact is last year we had 0-8 teams getting in because of a bad system. This year that system has been fixed so that the next best teams get in and NC was one of the next best teams. FACT is- you made the playoffs. The team you are supposed to play deserves to have a game. Step up, be a man, and go play that game as hard as you can. This is whats wrong with America. Every kid gets a trophy and I guess when you finally find out you won't get one you can just not show up.

You are contradicting your own comments. You say you hate the way America gives a trophy to everyone for participating, then you turn around and blast a team and their kids character for saying "I do not deserve the privilege at a shot at a trophy because we did not prove it during the season"..... They are representing your core argument and are standing up against the corrupt way that America thinks, and you are blasting them for it.

Blame the system, the tournament setup or the RPI if you have to but leave the kids and their honorable decision out of it.

I agree NC put Grangeville in a bad situation. Grangeville had a bye this last week, would take forfeit from NC and so have 3 weeks without a game. I see this being a great reason to cut back the 2A playoffs from 16 teams to 12. So much difference between the top teams and bottom teams. Malad is excited about the opportunity. I think there needs to be some kind of consequence to NC for doing this. They didn't uphold their obligation.

I bet NC would not have done it if they did not already talk to the state and make sure another team took their place. I agree that a 3 week bye would be hard on any football team, especially a talented undefeated champion like Grangeville.

I think a 12 team system would be the best and eliminate a lot of these low level teams from making it to the playoffs making more quality match ups. Only negative thing to it would be eliminating possible Cinderella story events like an At-Large team somehow defeating a defending state champion.

Blame the system, not the decision.

Actually they did not see if anyone would take their place. They just said we refuse to play. Also, I highly doubt that there was this honorable sit down meeting with the team and the team said it is not honorable for us to play in the play in game. So therefor we will give up our spot to an even worse team. That is not what happened. What really happened is the kids and coaches knew they were in for a **** kicking and their season had already been long enough so they decided to just get on with their winter sports and save the money on the travel. 2As have had a 16 team play in round for as long as I can remember and this is the first team to puss out. I just cannot believe their is a coach this gutless that he would let his kids quit.

Please don't try and make them sound honorable. Its just embarrassing.

Ill stop because one thing is sure, you do not have any facts to back you up and neither do I, so maybe we should leave it alone until someone who was actually there speaks up. If they do not speak up we leave it all alone.

@Coach Newell I have always been a fan of your on the boards, and I agree with your views 99% of the time, obviously we differ on this one, but to question my character because my opinion is different than your is just way out of line.

@integritystands2014 I apologize, that was more intended for Lucky but since you were half way agreeing with him I tagged you too. This attack on the kids has really angered me and made me think about the situation all day even through my own teams practice today.

I made the decision to get the first hand story of what happened to clear out the BS. I called NC and talked to their AD. She told me that the decision was the Administration and Coaches only and that they felt that winning two games was not enough to make the playoffs.

It had nothing to do with their opponent or their kids. She was very kind with me asking questions and was appreciative of the fact that I was on the same page that the kids had nothing to do with the decision.

Say what you want about everything but leave the players and their character out of it. They played a full season and will roll again next year.

I still believe it is a terrible example to set for the kids. the administration and coaches are letting them quit. Grangeville deserves a game and they should honor that. Luckily Malad stepped up.

From the looks of it, Grangeville would probably get more out of an intra-squad scrimmage. I've been on both ends of blowouts. It does nothing for either team. The losers don't get anything except a tail kicking. They don't get a "character building," they get a physical beating by a team that is plain and simply better in all facets of the game. The winning team doesn't get better. They don't get challenged. They get a romp where they play their bench and hopefully, figure a way not to embarrass their opponent by running up the score. Most of the time the second half is running time, so what kind of game do you really get?

If it is really about staying sharp, then I'm sure that Grangeville's staff would find a way to have a competitive intrasquad game.

I know this is a new way of doing the brackets but I agree with NC AD I don't think malad or soda should be in there ether . If you only win one district game you shouldn't even be considered to go to the playoffs.

This is why the state needs to go to an 8 team bracket. Extend the season to a 9 game season, shorten the tournament to 3 weeks, and take the 5 conference champions and 3 at large.

That would match-up the following 2A teams in the tournament this year.

    • 4th Dist #1 Declo (8-0)

    • 2nd Dist #1 - Grangeville (8-0)

    • 6th Dist #1 - North Fremont (8-0)

    • 5th Dist #1 - West Side (8-0)

    • 3rd Dist #1 - New Plymouth (5-3)

    • At Large - McCall-Donnelly (6-2)

    • At Large - West Jefferson (6-2)

    • At Large - Aberdeen (5-3)

    First Round:

    • 1 Declo vs 8 Aberdeen

    • 4 West Side vs 5 New Plymouth

    • 3 North Fremont vs 6 McCall-Donnelly

    • 2 Grangeville vs 7 West Jefferson

This would make a great tournament, save the state and several schools a ton of money and would put a lot more meaning into qualifying for the tournament.

Completely agree. I like how 5A does the 12 team set up. But one 2A district champ would get the short end of the stick in it.

Less teams to state would make things much more enjoyable and better feeling of accomplishment for making it.

that looks way better and the way it should be that tournament would be awesome to watch

The 2As have been given this option but they continue to vote it down. None of them want to play a 9 game schedule. It is already hard enough for most of them to find 8 games. They agreed years ago and continue to agree that they would rather do the play in game than a 9th regular season game. And you guys don't seem to realize that in the 2As your scout team is usually a bunch of 120 pound freshman. An intersquad scrimmage does nothing.

Not if they balance the sides. I've seen plenty of quality intrasquad games. I get the impression that Lucky is just not happy and wants to have his way. Just curious Lucky? Who is your team?

    Lucky#7
    Oct 23, 2018

Another reason you will never see an 8 team bracket is because the 3rd district refuses to only get 1 automatic bid. They feel like with more schools they should get more representation. Also should declo get an automatic bid for winning one district game? This year yes but what about when Duncan is gone.

a 12 team bracket also has problems. Most A seeds do not want a bye before the playoffs. So in a sense you are punishing them for winning. The only way a 12 team bracket is 4 teams get a bye oppening round.

Okay, so, following the seeding of the tournament, match-up all those teams that didn't make the playoffs with a team that has a similar record for their final game of the season (these could even be regional so that there isn't a bunch of travel). Could be a bunch of competitive games instead of a bunch of first round blow outs.

I am glad this was written. Everything they have stated leaves no trace of quit. They played hard and would have stepped up if it were not for unseen and uncontrollable factors.

No matter how well a bracket is set up, you will always have a team or fan hurt my the results, thus too is unseen and uncontrollable. What is in our control is how we handle ourselves as adults with our words and actions.

Let's end this thread here and thank NC for their actions and wish them luck next year.
