Just returned from the Jamboree up at Timberlake. 4A Lakeland, 3A Timberlake, Kellogg, Priest River. 2A St. Maries. No Bonners Ferry.
Overall, St. Maries impressed again considering they are 2A going against bigger schools. Hard to tell about Lakeland, as they were going against smaller schools. Timberlake is better than the past two years. Kellogg doesn't appear near as good as last year. Priest River is,,, well,,, Priest River. Wonder where Bonners was, so hard to say about IML?
St. Maries has a talented QB and some skill kids. They come off the ball well on both sides and swarm to the ball. Typical SM team of the past couple of years. Timberlake has a good QB who scrambles and makes plays. A good hard running FB/LB, they were pretty successful on the double hand off counter that they had been so good at in the past. O-line had some size, but the big boys seemed a little slow and not very aggressive. Defense was hot and cold. Maybe a little suspect at the corners. Kellogg is still with the wishbone, but doesn't look as physical or athletic as last year. Defense looks vulnerable. It looks like Priest is trying to run the Air Force/Navy/Georgia Tech ace back wing bone. UHHHHHH????? If I had to guess, in the IML, it is going to be the same old thing. No team will challenge another from the south or east. come play-offs. Pre-season guess: Timberlake, Kellogg, with Priest and Bonners tossing a coin as to who shows up.
It is really hard to tell much, as almost all of the teams have been indoors most of the last two weeks because of smoke, so they couldn't have had much live contact of any kind. By the time that Timberlake and St. Maries matched up, it was late in the jamboree and both teams were mixing and matching so it looked fairly even.
Thanks for the comments!
