I remember when the boards used to be a gathering place for all kinds of topics. Why isn't there as much chatter as there used to be? I feel like the website improved too. What gives?
It's too bad. I enjoyed hearing from individuals from different parts of the state, getting other perspectives, and even the trash talk. Not sure if peolpe get too offended nowadays, or just too busy posting on social media to post here. It is what it is, but I sure miss the old days when the boards were loaded with local talk on all of our favorite teams.
There's only a small handful of people on here anymore, I think when they switched to the new format a lot folks just didnt update their accounts. It's unfortunate there used to be a fair amount of good discussion on here and now folks get offended if you have a different opinion than them and start name calling.
I believe that it's a result of two things. First off the change in format left a lot of people behind. I personally don't feel there has been enough promotion from the powers that be to get people back and talking which brings me to my second theory. Twitter! There is tons of updates and instant updates however you don't get the trash talking and the opinions from around the state there that you would get here. That's just my 2 cents
I remember cbs sports was very active. They shut it down much to my dismay. These boards look to be fun and informative. I look forward to this bball season.
I think a lot of the back & forth/smack talk was from high school kids, with the occasional adult, who would get on here to get people riled up. I actually wonder if that demographic has moved on to different formats like Twitter and Instagram (as Bigfoot mentioned).
I'm not sure how you get the word out to get people back this way...Maybe the admins of this site put out teasers on Twitter/Instagram to get traffic directed this way...i.e. "Is the East going to dominate again this year in Basketball, or will the West finally provide a challenge? Come give your opinion at sportsboards.com" OR "Which local fans do you love to hate? Tell us why at sportsboards.com"
Then (I don't know why this is underlining), when you come to this page, instead of having the boards divided up by sport, just have a main page with those questions...and let people have at it...
I was at the Nampa Blackfoot game. Later in the game I was giving scores from Friday night flash. People were asking where I was finding the updates. When I said Idaho Sports they asked "whats that"? Might need some advertising.
I use to post on these boards quite alot but then it got really conteneous with alot or trolls just trying to cause fights. Now I don't have any kids in school so I don't follow it as much but it would be nice if it could get back to the volume of about 12 years ago.
I blame a lot on the new format. I think a lot of people may not have known how to switch over and were scared to come here. I had a hard time logging in. Eventually I found another way to do so. There's several people I never see on here. Razor, Crybaby and Stinger. Others that are still here are Raider, XPlaya and yellowtwinkie.
People got ran off. It was too hard to have an actual conversations about sports with people, because they always wanted to get in the weeds about a topic or call people out.
Sorry guys....we definitely need to do a better job of promoting SB. Those of you that were on the old site..I remember lots of posts and getting lots of emails towards the end about how the "boards are dead". That's one of the big reason we redid the boards, was to generate more traffic, modernize it a bit, offer more features, etc.
We have hardly ANY kids on here. Mostly adults. 20 years ago when we started SB there was no Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The boards are fun when people communicate and communication takes work and effort. Two things that are severely lacking in today's social media world.
I will try to do a much better job moving forward of staying involved with the boards and promoting them more.
I have been trying to get on for 6 months. The new site is almost impossible to get on and my new e-mail which I have had for 5 years simply did not work since the site was changed. Just now I used my old e-mail with a different password and got on. I suspect the user name will be different. The reason these boards are so dead is I suspect 95% of the people who try to comment were the old users have had the same problem as me. Unfortunately Paul your new site is unworkable for me and it has been impossible for me to simply go through the process and enter my current 5 year old or longer e-mail address and sign up with a new user name and get a new password. Most of those people have simply given up trying. Most of us are not on facebook or know how to get on with google. When the format changed to that as a way to get on many of us were left behind. I did get on initially after the changeover but something changed this spring and until tonight. Idaho Sports is fantastic but Sportsboards is unworkable does not load well on my computer and is actually very hard to even read and follow since the new format and that is another reason people have given up. Why can't you have a login where you put in your password and your user name like we used to?

Agreed. It’s state championship week and the boards are silent
