- I am ready for girls basketball to get underway. 2A doesn't look as tough as it has in the past. I am sure Soda will be really tough again this year though. There JV is also really tough so the future still looks good for Soda. I Think there is a few teams still out there that could give them a game, like maybe Cole Valley Christian, and Melba. I am sure there is a team or two that will emerge. Does anyone know of any other great 2A girls teams?
- I am more a fan of the Men's sports, however, my hat is off to the Women of Sugar-Salem HS. They never missed a beat when it came to supporting their men's football team the past 5 years that I know of and I believe it is due, that I show them the same respect by starting a good and solid discussion on their sports. Is Sugar-Salem's Volleyball coach still coaching basketball? She has always been a kind and respectful person and very successful in coaching both sports. Who are the teams this year? Last year it was Sugar over Timberlake but looking back the past 6-7 years, I'm seeing a pattern of mostly Timberlake, Sugar, Snake, and Filer in the championship with a single year of Marsh Valley mixed in. Who is the Team to beat? Who is the young underdog that will surprise the regulars with a trip to the finals?
Nothing in east Idaho Mountain View is elite Lake City and Eagle a tough first game the winner to the championship loosing to Mountain View in 5a. Century's undefeated season impressive and they have a tough matchup against Blackfoot in first round and two good teams in Middleton and Mountain Home a tough game in semifinal. Minico a slight favorite against upstart Hillcrest and a chance to show better against Caldwell who I give the edge to in semi's. Have to go with Century who start 6'3 6'1 6' and 5'11".
In 3a Sugar is elite as well as Timberlake and Parma. Will give the edge to Sugar. 2a is special with in some quarters the number one team in the state Soda having wins over Sugar and two of the top Utah 5 and 6a teams already, a prohibitive favorite over Melba at 22-1 which should be a great game in the final. I will be rooting for 21-1 Shoshone to beat a good Prarie team in the semi's, two quality teams with Lapwai and Rimrock matched in the first round is a toss-up. Any of the four could win in div 1.
Division 2 has an abundance of great teams with 20-1 Carey aginst 20-4 Rockland in the first round and 21-3 Nezperce aginst Genesis Prep who is much better than their record. You also have a very good Dietrich team at 19-5 who look to me to be better than their teams that one four state titles in a row three years ago which I was able to see play aginst 19-2 Salmon River. In the same bracket you have 18-4 Kendrick against 21-2 Sho-Ban. Isn't that impressive!
Things kind of went as I anticipated. Lapwai looks pretty scary and Highland and Baker had a nice win over Timberline. Melba having a tough game against Malad does not bode well for their chances against Soda but that was a forgone conclusion. Figured Century might have their toughest game of the year thus far against Blackfoot. Timberlake and Parma showed well as expected. Did not know what to expect from Lake City congrads to Eagle.
Highland actually lost to Timberline. All SIC 5a semifinals
Idaho Sports had it the other way on the scoreboard and I assumed Highland had pulled the upset. Was able to see the 1a semi-finals in the early afternoon and it looks good for Salmon river against Carey. What a change to see the incredable size and defensive effort on both side with Century-Middleton. Great game between Minico and Caldwell. To bad the terrific guard Valleyo went down with an ankle injury in the last minute. No way they can matchup with Century. Caldwell has a good little team and Minico fell short with mental mistakes at the end.
