    2A Rankings

Hey 2a Wrestling Fans! Just for fun I made some ranking based on last year’s results at state. Obviously most guys will change weight, so these won’t be so accurate in a couple weeks, but I thought it would be fun to have an early season ranking. I also did not include head to head during the regular season, or guys that did not compete at state because of injury. These are just based of returning state placer, and best returning qualifier based on performance at state. Some weights were hard to do because of the seniors graduating. I just looked at the state tournament results and put these together, so I probably made mistakes, so fill free to correct and discuss.

Team Rankings (Based on the individual rankings. Doesn’t include other potential point scorers that aren’t ranked. So obviously these are not as accurate as they could be)

After the first week I definitely see a lot of movement in weight classes just curious to see what everyone else saw, and any sleepers?

I was impressed with the line up North Fremont had. They've worked hard building their numbers with their younger groups over the years and they're filling out a pretty dang tough roster. Looks like they even beat Sugar over the weekend. Any upsets in that dual or was it just matchups?

North Fremont was impressive, they look like thev might have the depth to make a run at it, I do know Ririe was missing a couple of their seniors with injuries. Cordingly looks almost unbeatable.

Now that guys are more settled in their weights, we can update these a bit. Here are my thoughts:

    98

    Dax Blackmon - Declo

    Dylan Sotin - St. Maries

After these two it is anyone's guess. Based on results I would expect Parkinson from Ririe, Davis from Malad, and Rodriguez and Fontaign from McCall to all be in there.

    106

    Kyle Rice - NP

    Burtenshaw - WJ

    Phillps - Declo

    Lloyd -Bear Lake

This weight and 98 are tough to rank due to the lack of wrestlers and returners. I doubt anyone makes it through a full match with Rice.

    113

    Troy Bruce - Salmon

Again tough to say after Bruce. I expect Clark from Declo, Cordingley from NF, Machen from Ririe and Ethington and Hennage from NP to be in here somewhere.

    120

    T. McPherson - Bear Lake

    Clayton Lunt - Grace

    Riggin Smith - Malad

    Trent Meyers - NP

    Woodmancey - Malad

    AV Morino - Declo

    Kohl Nielson - NF

Lunt is defending champ at 113, but narrowly lost to McPherson. However, Meyers is very tough and should contend for a title.

    126

    Caden Crider - Declo

    James Rindlisbaker - North Gem

    Michael Barfuss - NG??

    Christian Fabbi - CV

    Brendon Rice - NP

    Cahl Williams - Salmon

    Jacob Pilgrim - NF

Crider narrowly beat Rindlisbaker. Barfuss has a weigh-in here, but has mostly been at 132. Everyone should be fighting for 3rd after the top 2.

    132

    Kade Bruno - Challis

    Aurelio Morales - Orofino

    Michael Barfuss - NG??

    Gideon Lowen - McCall

    Nathaniel Nesbitt - NP

Wes Shaw - Dietrich, or is he at Gooding?

    Ben Velasco - Aberdeen

    Zane Helm - Melba

Top 2 are pretty well settled. Bruno has been at 138 as well.

    138

    Hsee Hsee - NP*

    Connor Mickelson - Grace

    Isaac Mitton - Oakley

    Brayden Turcott - Orofino

    Tucker Baker - McCall

    Joel Campbell - NP

    Hayden Villa - St. Maries

Chance Williams from NG has not wrestled yet, but if he is 138, he should be #1. Where the the Britos from NG? Campbell is a tough freshman.

    145

Hunter Beus - NP (assuming he is here)

    Teagan Dunn - Wendell

    Levi Jackson - Oakley

Adonis Stelzfried - Marsing (if he is here)

    Gabe Prather - Potlatch

    Nicholas Perkins - Firth

Tough weight to rank with unknown weights and lack of head to head. Beus should be #1 if he is there. Chance Williams should be #1 if he is there.

    152

    Riggen Cordingley - NF

    Derek Mathews - Declo

    Ty Dominguez - CV

    Dan Schwendiman - Ririe

    Josiah Campbell - NP

    Jake Svedin - Melba

    Tyson Thacker - Ririe

    Hayden Maupin - NF

Cordingley should dominate his way to a title. Mathews is a very tough freshman.

    160

    Davis McElroy - CV

    Hayden Hunt - Bear Lake

    Bruin Bradshaw - Challis

    Gabe Mathews - Declo

    Beau Carr - McCall

    Tyrek Mago - NF

McElroy gets the top spot due to highest returning placer at 160, but expect that Hunt and Bradshaw will give him a run.

    170

    Cooper Erickson - Challis

    Enoch Ward - West Side

Trey Yearsley - Ririe?? (if he is here)

    Kenon Brown - Potlatch

    Lane Schilling - CV

    Tuff Bentz - McCall

    Abel Torres - Aberdeen

Erickson is defending champ at 160. Yearsley has not wrestled a match yet.

    182

    Peyton Whipple - Kamiah

    Parker Pyle - McCall

    Chris Gundersen - Ririe

    Nolan Jensen - Bear Lake

    Dylan Hunt - Malad

    Sergio Cano - NF

Whipple won a close match with Pyle in Potlatch.

    195

    Gabe Sommers - Ririe

    George Bolling - Orofino

    Caden Hall - St. Maries

    Tyler Lusk - Bear Lake

    Bubba Summers - CV

    Hayeden Hood - NF

    Tucker Palmer - Malad

Top 3 are all in the mix for a title. Summers comes all the way up from 160.

    220

    Parker Walters - Grangeville

    Dawson Osterhout - Declo

    Scott Carr - McCall

    Xavier Lopez - Orofino

    Kelton Saad - Potlatch

    Darren Tapp - Malad

    Jose Castillo - NF

Walters is the defending champ at 285 and is down at 220. Lopez was 4th at 285 last year and was pinned by Carr.

    285

    Caleb Breedlove - Orofino

    Kelton White - WJ

    Cole Barrett - Firth

Spencer Watson - Aberdeen (if he is wrestling)

    Nick Gundersen - Ririe

    David Straw - McCall

    Peyton Thompson - Declo

    Breedlove should dominate everyone.

    Teams:

Should be a good race this year. Ririe returns a lot of points, but Declo and North Fremont should challenge. McCall looks strong, as does New Plymouth. Malad should score some points. Orofino and CV look good from the North. It should be a very competitive year and the title may come down to the last matches.

Heading into the home stretch just want to see where everyone's thoughts are now on favorites in each weight class,

98-i think blackmon from declo is the clear favorite, parkison from ririe pushes him a little harder every time the meet,

106-I don't see anyone beating rice from NP

113-machen and Bruce to battle it out, could go either way.

120-this one is anybody's guess, could go a lot of ways.

126-crider from declo has too much experience for the other guys

138-i barfuss Bruno this weekend in a close one, going to have to go with barfuss in a good one

138-Chance finnaly gets it done this year looked good at magic.

145-if Matthews stays at 145 I think he wins it, could be the start of something special, kid is really good.

152-if Mathews goes here I'm going with Mathews If not cordingly wins it.

160- who knows, Bradshaw has beat hunt, hunt beat Jensen, Jensen has beat Bradshaw, Mathews has wrestled good lately, and who knows about ward and mclerroy, think it goes to whoever has a hot weekend,

    170-erickson goes back to back

182- I think yearsley from ririe is to athletic for anyone else in this weight

195-hall from St Marie', sommers and Bolling right close this year.

220- ousterhout looks much better than the competition

285- haven't seen breedlove that much but did see white Beat McGinnis this weekend and that is enough for me going with white from west j

I find it interesting that you pick Matthews that win it even at 152 after being beat by Cordingley both times they have met. Even though the last time they met the score was somewhat close, Cordingley controlled the entire match. I think this could be a good year for upsets to happen. it seems like the competition is all pretty close at the top of the weights and look for there to be some good matches comet end of the year

I just think that Mathews now believes he belongs in the mat with corsingly and that can change the game a bit

After Magic Valley, some of these weights have sorted out, others are more complicated.

If Mathews thinks he can beat Cordingley, then he will stay at 152. No doubt he is very tough, especially for a freshman, but Cordingley is just tougher. Mathews can be a potential 4 timer if he stays at 145 this year.

    98

    Dax Blackmon - Declo

    Dylan Sotin - St. Maries

    Parkinson - Ririe

    Tayson Davis - Malad

    Rindlisbaker - NG

    Rodriguez - McCall

Blackmon dominated his way through the Magic Valley Classic and looks to be a clear favorite. Sotin is the only one he has not wrestled.

    106

    Kyle Rice - NP

    Burtenshaw - WJ

    Wray - Malad

    Phillps - Declo

    Lloyd - Bear Lake

As expected, Rice manhandled everyone at Magic Valley. Don't think anyone can last a match, let alone beat him.

    113

    Troy Bruce - Salmon

    Machen - Ririe

    Whitaker - Raft River

    Clark - Declo

    Ethington - NP

Bruce is a solid #1, as expected. Next 4 are all fairly close.

    120

    T. McPherson - Bear Lake

    Clayton Lunt - Grace

    McIntosh - Salmon

    Riggin Smith - Malad

    Brendon Rice - NP

    Chafin - GF

    AV Morino - Declo

    Woodmancey - Malad

    Kohl Nielson - NF

McPherson and Lunt have traded wins and seem to be a toss up. Myers from NP went up to 126. Will Brendon Rice go to 120? If so, I would put him at about #3-5. McIntosh had had a good tournament.

    126

    Trent Myers - NP

    Tanner Smith - Ririe

    James Rindlisbaker - North Gem

    Caden Crider - Declo

    Christian Fabbi - CV

    Cahl Williams - Salmon

    Jacob Pilgrim - NF

Myers broke into 126 in a big way and controlled every match. Rindlisbaker avenged his loss to Crider. Smith broke in big as well. Williams did not wrestle, must have been hurt.

    132

    Michael Barfuss - NG

    Kade Bruno - Challis

    Aurelio Morales - Orofino

    Gideon Lowen - McCall

    Nathaniel Nesbitt - NP

    Wes Shaw - Dietrich

    Ben Velasco - Aberdeen

    Zane Helm - Melba

This is a tough one. Bruno lost to Barfuss, Morales has not and will not wrestle either of them until State. Gotta go with Barfuss for now. Rankings are a little muddled after Lowen.

    138

    Chance Williams - NG

    Joel Campbell - NP

    Hsee Hsee - NP

    Connor Mickelson - Grace

    Brayden Turcott - Orofino

    Tucker Baker - McCall

    Hayden Villa - St. Maries

Chance Williams looks to be a clear #1. Campbell had a good tournament.

    145

    Derek Mathews - Declo

    Teagan Dunn - Wendell

Hunter Beus - NP (assuming he is here)

    Jake Svedin - Melba

    Levi Jackson - Oakley

    Dan Schwendiman - Ririe

    Gabe Prather - Potlatch

    Stelzfried - Marsing

This weight got an influx of new guys fleeing from Cordingley at 152. As a result, 152 is now very weak (aside from Cordingley). Mathews defaulted out after the quarters, but I think he is the best guy here. Svedin gave him a good match and is only ranked below Beus because Beus beat him every time last year. Top 4 are all tough. Stelzfried got hurt, but should compete when healthy.

    152

    Riggen Cordingley - NF

    Ty Dominguez - CV

    Josiah Campbell - NP

    Isaac Mitton - Oakley

    Tyson Thacker - Ririe

    Hayden Maupin - NF

This weight cleared out, with probably good reason.

    160

    Enoch Ward - West Side

    Davis McElroy - CV

    Bruin Bradshaw - Challis

    Hayden Hunt - Bear Lake

    Beau Carr - McCall

    Gabe Mathews - Declo

    Garrett Jensen - Ririe

    Tyrek Mago - NF

This weight is a bit of a mess. Ward went down here from 170. McElroy has not wrestled anyone in the top 8, but is the 2nd highest returning placer. Bradshaw won the MVC and pinned Hunt and Carr. He has split with Jensen. Jensen lost to Mathews and Carr pinned Mathews.

    170

    Cooper Erickson - Challis

    Kenon Brown - Potlatch

    Lane Schilling - CV

    Tuff Bentz - McCall

    Abel Torres - Aberdeen

    Isai Arriaga Marsing

    Erickson dominated at MVC.

    182

    Peyton Whipple - Kamiah

    Parker Pyle - McCall

    Trey Yearsley - Ririe

    Bubba Summers - CV

    Tyler Lusk - Bear Lake

    Chris Gundersen - Ririe

    Nolan Jensen - Bear Lake

    Dylan Hunt - Malad

    Sergio Cano - NF

Pyle was not at MVC. Yearsley looked pretty good. Summers went down from 195 at Orofino. Lusk came down from 195 as well.

    195

    Parker Walters - Grangeville

    Gabe Sommers - Ririe

    George Bolling - Orofino

    Caden Hall - St. Maries

    Hayeden Hood - NF

    Tucker Palmer - Malad

Interesting weight. Walters is down at 195 now and beat Bolling at Orofino.

    220

    Dawson Osterhout - Declo

    Scott Carr - McCall

    Kelton Saad - Potlatch

    Xavier Lopez - Orofino

    Orozco - Wendell

    Darren Tapp - Malad

    Jose Castillo - NF

Osterhout and Carr had a good match in the finals of the MVC that Osterhout won 12-11

    285

    Kelton White - WJ

    Caleb Breedlove - Orofino

    Cole Barrett - Firth

    Spencer Watson - Aberdeen

    Green - Wendell

    Alvarez - McCall

This ranking is based on White pinning McGinnis. McGinnis beat Breedlove solidly, but I think Breedlove will beat White at State.

    Teams:

Ririe narrowly beat Declo at the MVC. If Mathews did not default, then Declo could have won. I think those two are the favorites at State. Malad and McCall were 3rd and 4th and should do well at State, along with North Fremont. New Plymouth was 5th at the MVC and is in the mix for a trophy as well. More weights should shake out after the Aberdeen Tournament. Should be a good year.

Just an update now that that we are almost as the end of the regular season. There are several weights where guys have split. I tried to give the ranking to the guy who won the most recent match.

    98

    Dax Blackmon - Declo

    Dylan Sotin - St. Maries

    Parkinson - Ririe

    Tayson Davis - Malad

    Rindlisbaker - NG

    Rodriguez - McCall

No real changes here. Sotin beat Parkinson this weekend.

    106

    Kyle Rice - NP

    Burtenshaw - WJ

    Wray - Malad

    Phillps - Declo

    Lloyd - Bear Lake

    Fontaign - McCall

    No real changes here either.

    113

    Troy Bruce - Salmon

    Machen - Ririe

    Whitaker - Raft River

    Clark - Declo

    Ethington - NP

Nothing to add here. Bruce is a solid #1. Next 4 are all fairly close.

    120

    Kohl Nielson - NF

    T. McPherson - Bear Lake

    Clayton Lunt - Grace

    McIntosh - Salmon

    Riggin Smith - Malad

    Brendon Rice - NP

    Chafin - GF

    AV Morino - Declo

    Woodmancey - Malad

Nielson beat McPherson and Lunt. Rice did go down to 120. Those top 6 are all tough.

    126

    Trent Myers - NP

    Tanner Smith - Ririe

    James Rindlisbaker - North Gem

    Caden Crider - Declo

    Jacob Pilgrim - NF.

    Cahl Williams - Salmon

    Christian Fabbi - CV

Pilgrim beat Williams in the Sugar-Salem finals. Smith controlled Fabbi. Rindlisbaker and Crider did not wrestle this weekend.

    132

    Michael Barfuss - NG

    Kade Bruno - Challis

    Gideon Lowen - McCall

    Aurelio Morales - Orofino

    Wes Shaw - Dietrich

    Ben Velasco - Aberdeen

    Nathaniel Nesbitt - NP

    Zane Helm - Melba

Barfuss and Bruno did not wrestle this weekend. Lowen beat Morales, and they are now 1-1. Velasco beat Nesbitt.

    138

    Chance Williams - NG

    Hsee Hsee - NP

    Joel Campbell - NP

    Brayden Turcott - Orofino

    Tucker Baker - McCall

    Hayden Villa - St. Maries

    Ryan Nelson - RR

    Connor Mickelson - Grace

Williams won Sugar. Hsee beat Campbell this weekend. Turcott didn't wrestle this weekend but has split with Villa and beat Baker. Nelson beat Mickelson.

    145

    Derek Matthews - Declo

    Teagan Dunn - Wendell

Hunter Beus - NP (assuming he is here)

    Hayden Maupin - NF

    Levi Jackson - Oakley

    Dan Schwendiman - Ririe

    Gabe Prather - Potlatch

Matthews has not wrestled since Magic Valley and is likely hurt. Still think he is #1 if healthy. Maupin beat Jackson at Sugar. Svedin was at 152 this weekend.

    152

    Riggen Cordingley - NF

    Josiah Campbell - NP

    Jake Svedin - Melba

    Ty Dominguez - CV

    Isaac Mitton - Oakley

    Tyson Thacker - Ririe

    Abel Torres - Aberdeen

After Cordingley and Campbell, I don't know what to think. Svedin came back up to 152 and pinned Dominguez, but lost to Thacker. Dominguez pinned Thacker. Mitton has beat Thacker. Torres and Svedin have beat Mitton. Svedin and Thacker have beat Torres.

    160

    Bruin Bradshaw - Challis

    Enoch Ward - West Side

    Hayden Hunt - Bear Lake

    Garrett Jensen - Ririe

    Davis McElroy - CV

    Beau Carr - McCall

    Gabe Mathews - Declo

    Tyrek Mago - NF

This is a wild weight. Bradshaw took 2nd at Red Halverson, is 1-1 with Jensen, but pinned Hunt and Carr and beat Matthews twice. Ward and Hunt have split with Ward pinning him this weekend and winning Sugar. Jensen pinned McElroy and Carr this weekend, but lost to Mago by DQ in a match that he was ahead in, according to Track. Jensen lost to Mathews and Carr pinned Mathews.

    170

    Cooper Erickson - Challis

    Kenon Brown - Potlatch

    Lane Schilling - CV

    Tuff Bentz - McCall

    Isai Arriaga Marsing

    Dylan Hunt - Malad

Not much has changed. Erickson was 5th at Halsverson. Brown was 3rd at Rumble. Schilling did not wrestle this weekend. Hunt has been at 170 recently.

    182

    Peyton Whipple - Kamiah

    Chris Gundersen - Ririe

    Parker Pyle - McCall

    Trey Yearsley - Ririe

    Bubba Summers - CV

    Nolan Jensen - Bear Lake

    Hayeden Hood - NF

Not sure what to do with this one. Whipple didn't wrestle this weekend. Summers beat Pyle, but lost to Gundersen and Yearsley. Pyle beat Yearsley, but lost to Gundersen. Gundersen and Yearsley have beat each other, but Gundersen has won more recently. Lusk went up to 195 for Sugar and Hood came down to 182.

    195

    Parker Walters - Grangeville

    Caden Hall - St. Maries

    Gabe Sommers - Ririe

    George Bolling - Orofino

    Lusk - Bear Lake

    Tapp - Malad

    Tucker Palmer - Malad

Another interesting weight. Walters did not wrestle this weekend, but is 2-1 with Bolling. Hall beat Sommers. Orofino was at CV tournament and Bolling should have wrestled Hall and Sommers, but he went to the Rumble by himself instead. Lusk came back up. Tapp came down from 220.

    220

    Dawson Osterhout - Declo

    Scott Carr - McCall

    Brandon Stump - Grangeville

    Kelton Saad - Potlatch

    Xavier Lopez - Orofino

    Orozco - Wendell

    Jose Castillo - NF

Stump was 2nd last year and wrestled this weekend, but lost to Carr.

    285

    Kelton White - WJ

    Caleb Breedlove - Orofino

    Cole Barrett - Firth

    Spencer Watson - Aberdeen

    Green - Wendell

    Straw - McCall

    Alvarez - McCall

Breedlove did not compete this weekend. Straw beat Alvarez.

    Teams:

Not much has changed. I still think Ririe and Declo are the favorites at State. Close behind are North Fremont, McCall, Malad, and New Plymouth.

Thanks for the update, love the chaos in the 160 lb weight class that could be won by anyone in the top 5 or 6, seeding at state will be oh so important, might actually decide the finals. I do agree that Bolling should have wrestled, he could have put all of seedings to bed, I think he lost more than he gained by not wrestling in Clearwater.
