Not sure what Mathews was thinking in that situation. He was up 10-2 with just a few seconds left. He for sure should have to miss some events. Not sure what the rule is. SF kid will more than likely have to miss some of his season for Mathews actions. Seems fair that Mathews should have to miss at least the equal amount of time.
I wasn't there to watch this slam but I have heard that it was not only unnecessary but also premeditated based on events leading up to the event. The SF kid missed their dual this week but I saw that Matthews wrestled. I have a hard time as a fan of the sport to see that more isn't being done for discipline, especially if it was premeditated. I hope to see a change moving forward for athletes hurting other athletes on purpose. AGAIN as I already stated a lot of my information is hearsay so please feel free to educate me further, and not just bash at me
I was at this event, noticed a couple of things, the Mathews kid undoubtedly intentionally tried to hurt the SF kid. It was completely unnecessary. The other thing I took away from it, was that at no point did coach Matthews show the slightest bit of concern for the injured wrestler. Guy has no class. I get that emotions were high at the moment but at some point you have to be a bigger person with a bigger purpose for high school kids.
It was completely legal shoulders hit first and the head didn’t even hit.. we have the film to prove it! next time you guys make a post trash talking a high school kid fact check yourself!
I was at the Challis matches and watched this contest. Was the slam a little over the line? No chance. It was obvious that Matthews lost his temper because the SF kid was curling fingers and some other dirty wrestling. Matthews is an extremely talented wrestler and is the best grappler in any gym, in any match, and on any night of the week. I’ve seen at least thirty of his matches. He’s legit. He is a good young man off the mat but on the mat, he’s on another level than most of his opponents. I don’t think he was intentionally trying to hurt his SF opponent but he was definitely sending him a message for his dirty wrestling. Should he have been suspended? No way. The SF kid wasn’t even hurt during the slam. It was a later take down when he had his arms pinned and banged his head off of the mat.
My information is also second hand. But I think the real tragedy here is that an entire gym of adults stood and booed a 15 year old kid who had had enough of his fingers being bent back and his crotch grabbed and squeezed. The fault here lies with the ref. He's in charge and should have stopped the dirty wrestling before the kid had to take care of it himself. Not sure anyone won that day.

Also if someone was grabbing my testicles and fingers I would slam them too..

Sorry that you are a 45 year old that has nothing better to do than ruin a great wrestlers reputation.

I saw the slam and thought it was cool and totally legal. 10/10 for style 9/10 for finish. :)
