After taking a look at the action (or lack there of) this past weekend and then what we have in store for this upcoming it has me wondering as I have many times before... Why do we have such a long season? Washington and Montana are finishing up districts, regionals, etc. this next weekend and then will be rolling into state just as we are headed to districts.
We often talk about numbers and participation on these boards and i think the length of season really hurts those return numbers from year to year for those kids who arent super serious but just do it as more of something to do.
I guess my main question is, why are we two weeks longer than our neigboring states? I for one feel like shaving two weeks off of the season would help with numbers, save some sanity for coaches who are starting freestyle/leagues in double duty with the last month of high school, etc.
Thoughts? When was the last time this was discussed at the state level.
