Just what 3-4 years ago, they where 4a.
longer than that for most of them. And it's based on number of students Outside of Bonneville what schools shrunk to the 4A size. When Kuna or Columbia win there will always be a big fat footnote "they won state because their football team sucked..." Same with their wrestlers.
@Guntoter Weak excuse for a Mediocre proram... Good run for couple of years but the asterisk is *State champ only because there were no good programs! Did not know Minico has fallen so far that they are using the Mtn Home cry! Possibly you should petition for a 3 1/2 A classification for you and the Tigers! The only reason we know Minico is because we would go to Halverson beat your kids and get walked out in the championship ceremony with those Husky corn fed cheerleaders! Again WEAK excuse for a mediocre Program! Hope your wrestlers dont cry like their fans! Kuna and Columbia can win at any classification we know including YOU Minco cant! Minico who??
@Dee P'schtate not from Minico.
What a ridiculous contradicting comment. Kuna or columbia will win state but their wrestlers suck! How does this ruin wrestling in idaho? These r the same teams at 4a from 2010-2014.i read your earlier post about boohoo minico is good, when will they move up so we can b successful.kuna and columbia were successful at 5a. I dont think either wrestling team wanted to drop but its seems to b your way of thinking that is affecting our schools. Dont try to get better on your own. Make the path easier. Btw how many d1 kids have u produced?
One that went football had offers for wrestling as well. And if you were literate you would see that I wrote. There will be a footnote because THEIR football team sucked. The wrestlers that win state will be wonder if they would have beat so and so from whoever wins the 5A title. The 5A schools have larger pools to draw from and therefore have an advantage over 4A schools. Sorry but dems da fax.
But those poor 5A schools just couldn't win so instead of getting better the IHSAA gave them a participation ribbon and dropped them down a division...
Also minico has had a great run. But Jerome Lakeland black foot bonny nampa have all placed ahead of minico in tourneys this year.
True Nampa dropped from 5A as well. When did Blackfoot or Jerome place ahead of Kuna or Columbia?
Bonneville was a legit drop they have less students.
I never said they did. All I'm pointing out is that with or without kuna or columbia minico still wouldn't win. Regardless minicos enrollment doesn't exceed 4a requirements so isn't it hypocritical that u want them out just because they're good. And in idaho #s arent vastly different. But along with the #s in larger communities the students also have alot of other sports n activities to choose from other than just wrestling n basketball.getting kids out to wrestle n work hard is tough anywhere.but small schools have done it n been as good as or better than the bigs. Parma in late 80s, weiser, challis, fruit and, sugar, snake, and all producing kids who were best in the state. Btw read your own post. U said wrestling SAME AS FOOTBALL
When Kuna or Columbia win there will always be a big fat footnote "they won state because their football team sucked..." Same with their wrestlers.
As in there will be a big fat footnote. They won 4A because they were not in 5A where they belong.
Ok.if that's what u meant instead of what u wrote. Problem is there wont b.except in your head. Just like the Patriots, Yankees or any other team or sport someone thinks is unfair. I'm pretty sure both wrestling teams would rather b 5a.the only team to beat is postfalls n columbia beat them at rollie. The bottom line is if u want to win get better
Yeah it's like telling the Patriots to come play in the Rose Bowl. The NFL is different from the NCAA. And it won't be just in my head. I am saying something because at the tourneys I've been too and the memes on the wrestling boards are discussing the subject.
Post Falls is the team to beat and they were the team to beat before the others dropped to 4A.
@The Other Idaho that is true they will win by what 100 points?
No. It's like telling Boise state to play with oklahoma. Or ucf to play with LSU in a football sense. For wrestling the difference between 4a n 5a isn't and has never been that different top to bottom. And good luck with the whole footnote thing. I'm sure it will pass in the school districts soon!
It's a mental thing... Probably why it's hard to follow...
What's a mental thing? Your logic,it just doesn't make sense. And u still havent explained how any of this ruins wrestling.
That people will remember that they dropped a class. It will be remember when Kuna dropped to 4A and won state? You know people will think and say it. Hence mental as in thought.
I welcome the change, if anything it negates the 5a champions as not necessarily being the top dogs. If your the best your the best in any division, period. There are plenty of champions who would win regardless of the divisions. It affects the team race somewhat but otherwise the best wrestler will win and unfortunately we dont Have a hall of fame or superstate to let the actual best face off.
Losing the HOF is a dang shame for sure.
Exactly. 4a is now the toughest again and that's awesome. And I've never heard anyone complain when a school puts up a petition to stay where they r and they win something. No footnotes then. Also like I said it was a school board decision across the state to make this stupid rule. Not kuna or columbia wrestling. But I do think its presumptuous to say when kuna wins. I think Jerome columbia n bonny may have something to say about that
Exactly. 4a is now the toughest n that's awesome. And I don't c anyone remembering when a school puts up a petition to stay down n then win something. And kuna or columbia didnt ask for this stupid rule. It's a statewide school board decision..also I think it's very presumptuous to say"when Luna wins state". I think Jerome columbia and bonny may have something to say about that
Sorry meant Columbia or Kuna. And the schools have to petition so yeah it is on the schools and IHSAA
Not with the new rule. It comes down to all sport winning/losing percentage. School falls below they drop
@Vickers. Not true. No one is forced down a division. They require the school to petition down. It is reviewed and granted based on the schools request.
Not all the 5A schools are big. CDA is probably the smallest enrollment in 5A, and would guess PF is on the small side enrollment wise as well. bottom line is 4A and 5A should be one division.
Combine 4A and 5A? You must be thinking of the A-1 Division. I miss the old A-1, A-2 and A-3 setup that Idaho had. I was curious about your statement on school size, not the smallest but pretty close according to my link. https://www.niche.com/k12/search/largest-public-high-schools/s/idaho/
The Schools do not have to drop due to winning percentage. Because Lakeland would be in 3A then because they don't win at any other sport but WRESTLING.. All the state did was transfer the losses to another school. This was a bad decision by the IHSAA and most the people in wrestling would agree.
Trickle down effect. They should have just got rid of 5A and called it 4A. And next year 4A becomes 3A. And then year after the 2A get crushed with no where to run. The amount of losses doesn't go away. It is just passing them around to others. You know like Socialism.
@Leverage yeah except those 5A teams with 200 players on their football teams...
It is just another attempt to make our kids weaker mentally and physically. Like a participation trophy, dont expect or try to attain improvement, just make things easier.
I think the changes improve the 4A wrestling for sure however right now it is tough for schools to compete in a tournament against larger teams but that is how it always is. More kids you got on the team, more possible points you can score. I would love to see a 4A team championship like a dual.
I feel that the state tournament is for varsity only. Stop letting schools register 2 per weight. You want a state medal, make varsity
Thats nonsense! What’s that accomplish?Allows a lesser kid from another school to qualify?? If your program is tough enough to put multiple kids on the podium why shouldn’t they. If the top 2 kids from the state are on the same team one has to cut weigh?? Dumb!
Yea I can't tell u how many kids I know who couldn't make varsity back in the day against teammates who where state champs when only one qualified. Or how many since then meeting in the final or least 2 placing
I am not sure, but is there any other state that lets 2 kids from the same school compete for state? I keep falling back into my old school way of thinking. I will always feel Idaho has to many classes. Competition breeds greatness.
