Sugar will introduce Scot Davis from Minnesota as its new wrestling coach today. He is reported to be the winningest high school wrestling coach in the country. Welcome to Sugar Coach Davis!
wow.........this guy again. He was in Montana a few years ago, but did nothing. Why does he keep bouncing around? He will probably do well at Sugar considering the talent they have.
i dont think he will last more than one year if this guy is not handed a state championship team he will quit. and i dont think sugar has a chance this year what do you think
I figured Snake River would be the favorite. They've got some younger kids coming that will score them a lot of points next year. I also think you're not giving enough credit to the Buhl Badgers. They'll have a great group coming through next year. Not sure Sugar and South have enough to keep up with a tough team like Snake River next year.
It is always laughable yet sad when a coward like "Turk," hiding behind a fictitious nickname comes on a forum like this and makes slanderous and derogatory comments about someone with unsubstantiated or inaccurate information just for the sake of criticizing somebody they dislike, are jealous of, or most likely don't even really know. If you would use your actual name maybe your derogatory comments might make more sense to me at least, if I knew who you really were? I doubt you have the courage to do that though. You would most likely use another fictitious name as well. With this said, you say I am a "self-promoter"...really?! Turk, I don't have to self-promote, many people in the "Wrestling World" know who I am, I just don't need to. The real question is, WHO ARE YOU? I came on this forum with full disclosure to defend my name and answer accusations from a person that disguise's his/her name. Sounds pretty cowardly and one sided to me! Who are you?! Anyway, with this said, I have a sneaky suspicion who you are anyway. I also have a twin brother who is a computer software engineer with a degree in Electrical Engineering who I am sure can find out who you are "Turk." I don't know if it is worth my time in asking though. There will always be cowards like you that want to criticize and demean people on a public forum, hiding behind a fictitious name like "Turk." Anyway, with this said, I have nothing to hide! I think my 46 years of coaching, including our teams records and any honors or awards received as a result of our teams' success that I have coached over my many years speaks for itself. I highly doubt "Turk" has ever done anything noteworthy to talk about? And, certainly not in the sport of Wrestling. At least, that would be my guess, because successful people, especially in our sport of wrestling, don't become successful by criticizing and demeaning/slandering others. They instead observe, go to work, make changes and improve their own skills. I know when another team or program is successful or defeats my teams I want to learn from them, and why they are successful? I also carefully watch and review moves that were successful against our wrestlers. I do this to improve our team and my coaching. Even with all my years in wrestling I'm still learning. If you think you know it all, believe me...you don't! I also respect those that are successful. Yes, there will always be jealous people like "Turk" out there, but a person just has to have confidence in what you are doing and forget about the critics. You won't improve or better yourself by tearing down others. As for the other forum information seeking writer nicknamed "HWC_1" who wants so badly to know any negative information on me regarding what Turk called "banned" as a coach in Minnesota, well here you go "HWC_1" in the links below. Know that this makes you no better a person than Turk though, asking for such information. Anyway, here are those two links to articles written about that incident that originated back in 2008, and was not reported until 3 1/2 years later in mid-2011. Believe me, it was an honest mistake made in trying to help a down-and-out father and his family. However, people like "Turk," and in fact may well be Turk?, took advantage of my good will and turned it into some kind of sick revenge on their part. In so doing, they also took advantage of that family (their former childhood friends) too because they were not happy with what they did to me and the suspension imposed on me. I take full responsibility, but if you read those articles you will better understand the circumstances. So, "HWC," here's the answers to the question you asked Turk to get whatever dirt you thought you could find. Also, to your response "Sportster," hopefully we can win another State Team Title at Sugar-Salem this coming season. I guess I don't know yet how things really look? Coach Glider told me he thought we could finish in the top 3, with maybe a chance at #1. Obviously, it is hard to predict this early. We will find out?! All anyone can do is their best, and I will give it all I have from the coaching end of things. Heck, I don't even really know our own team yet, much less everybody else's? There are many factors that come into play during a season with injuries, illness, wrestlers in the right weights, etc., etc. Win it or finish 2nd or 3rd, or whatever. I fully plan to return the following season. The good people at Sugar-Salem deserve my full commitment and they will get just that! Anyway, just go to the following articles written upon my being hired at Flathead High School in Kalispell, Montana and later at Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City, Iowa. Both great schools with great people! Kalispell Beacon: https://flatheadbeacon.com/2012/05/23/new-flathead-high-coach-still-serving-two-year-suspension-in-Minnesota/, and "Heelan hires winningest wrestling coach" by Jeff Budlong-Sioux City Journal (June 18, 2016)
Now "Turk" asked why I have moved, his term "bounced around" so much? My answer to that is #1-BECAUSE I CAN! And, #2-It's really NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! I can assure you though, there were some very good and solid reasons why. Mostly connected to my family situation at the time. I certainly would have been completely happy staying at any of those schools though. All great people! By the way "Turk," we did not have a dismal year at Flathead when I coached there in 2012-2013. Turk, you said I "did nothing there"...Really?! Do your research before speaking out on a public forum! You make yourself look even more despicable and ignorant. Anyway, I took over a Flathead HS Team that had not had a winning season in 3 years and took what I was told would have only 11 wrestlers coming out for the high school team and some 20+ at the middle school. With that said, prior to the season, I did some major recruiting during lunchroom visits and we got 46 wrestlers out at the high school and 68 wrestlers at the middle school. We managed to go 12-11 (for the record: I have never coached a team to losing season record in my 46 years of coaching, even with major challenges like I had at Flathead and other schools I've come into as the "new coach" and taken on over the years. Again, my record speaks for itself! And, I have never been afraid of challenges!) on the season and a number of those kids recruited helped win a State Team Title just 3 years later. I still have many good friends in Kalispell and return each year to Flathead High School for the Montana Intensive Wrestling Camp. In fact, I took several Sugar-Salem Wrestlers there this past June, and plan to attend in future years too. Great people there and they still give me some credit for some of the success they are having ever since. There are many great people at Flathead High School! Anyway, now I am honored and excited to continue my coaching career at Sugar-Salem High School. The people I have met there have been so friendly and welcoming. Coach Keven Glider, who I am replacing, has been extremely helpful and the Administration and staff I have met are all wonderful people. I am so honored to serve as their next Head Wrestling Coach! I am excited to be a part of Idaho Wrestling too! My wife's family lives in beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho, and I have nephews in Spokane, WA and Boise, Idaho. So, I am not unfamiliar with the beautiful country out here. I am anxious to get started, and I already have, attending two wrestling camps with some Sugar-Salem Wrestlers at the "Wolfpack Duals" in Salina, Utah and the Montana Intensive Camp in Kalispell, Montana. Sugar-Salem kids are great too! I hope we can keep the previous success going strong! I know we have our work cut out for us though. The "Youth Program" needs work and we could benefit from increased participation numbers at all levels. I plan to work hard on that! There are also several programs like South Fremont, Snake River, Fruitland and others, that seem to have things going strong right now. Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome to Idaho! I am looking forward to my journey in coaching being completed there at the great school that Sugar-Salem has, and in an absolutely beautiful state! I don't plan on going anywhere else. I will complete my coaching career in Idaho! How long that will be, I don't know? Only God knows that! I love what I do though, coaching wrestling and helping young people. My wife wants me to keep coaching too. I am also bringing one of my longtime Assistant Coaches in Larry Hovden with me too. Larry also has been recognized on a national level with the NWCA "National Assistant Coach of the Year" honors. We are both looking forward to coaching together again. All the best Idaho wrestlers, coaches and fans, and have a great summer everyone, that goes for you too "Turk," or whatever your real name is?! If God can forgive, so can I. I pray that God will make you a more positive, caring and considerate person. Once you do this, your life will be happier, more meaningful and fulfilling. You won't have to waste your time bashing people on forums like this under made up names. You will simply have better things to do! God bless you "Turk," "HWC_1" and "Sportster" and any other critics out there. Remember: "With God, all Things are Possible" -Mathew 19:26. Most Sincerely, Scot Davis-"New" Head Wrestling Coach at Sugar-Salem High School-Sugar City, Idaho.
@scotcdavis I applaud your honesty. I would have no problem having my boys coached by you. I think that this is what our young athletes need to be taught, honor, integrity, accountability, hard work, and forgiveness. Welcome to the area coach
swiss you might want to check out what south fremont JR high has done the last 2 years i dont think they have lost a duel or a tournament in 2 years and the killed buhl at minco they have beat all the 4 and 5A schools they are legit . someone told me they are bring 20-25 8th graders in next year and the majority of the pack a big punch!!!. i myself think it is south fremonts to loose. Im also in agreeance that its hard to count on in coming freshman but so many of these kids coming in are upper vally aces and they travel everywhere and wrestle at a very high level what do you think palestra
Ha Ha thats funny whos dad threw his hat at a ref ? was it on purpose ?. I agree fully on freshman i dont for see any state champs i see alot of points, but everything has to line up for them also. i personally just dont see buhl as a contender do you, i also think weiser is the one to watch out for they will take 25 to state this year and i hope we ( teton) can finaly finish a season towards the top
Turk, what's the full story on why he was banned? I find it's always easy to judge a person on part of a story so I haven't formed an opinion but rather have been impressed by the rest of his national honors. I would love the full story if you have it though. A man with his profile is exciting to have in Idaho. He has big shoes to fill at Sugar but I'm sure he will hold his own with the program Kevin Glider has built.
South Fremont will be a top contender. The Aces are doing incredible things for the youth and Jed Clark has been doing incredible things in helping them develop at the high school level. They won their district this past year but weren't able to keep the stride for state. They have shown continual improvements every year though and increased talent is always exciting for wrestling in Idaho.
The Weiser debate has been the same debate going on for the past few years and has never panned out for them. They usually bring a good chunk of kids who shouldn't be at state, which takes spots away from those that would bring better competition.
wow.........this guy again. He was in Montana a few years ago, but did nothing. Why does he keep bouncing around? He will probably do well at Sugar considering the talent they have.

The State title is between Sugar, South and Snake River. Coach Glider did not want to leave with the cupboards bare.
Coach Davis has a great shot at it! He Leads the Nation in Team duel wins!
self promoter. Check why he was banned from Minnesota wrestling for a few years.
