I am a kuna fan and this question is very important for me. I can not answer it myself as I am not competent enough but I saw some people discussing at https://writingpro.org/ how it is difficult for kuna but not impossible. I hope they qualify for the finals at least.
Idaho Sports really needs to start doing a data driven ranking instead of only providing a personal opinion poll on wrestling team rankings. It was really ridiculous for Buhl to be moved down after their performance last weekend.
As far as the rankings go I think they've done a pretty good job based upon results so far. I think Ririe will still be at least top 3, they've lost some star power but have great depth. I think Kuna will also be fine at 5A and will also finish in the top 3 at 5A. As to Buhl moving down in the rankings, I agree rankings need to be based upon data as much as possible. That said, based upon the available data, I think Buhl is about where they should be, they have some great young wrestlers and the lower/middle weights are strong but their upper weights have been MIA. Both Snake River and American Falls beat them in duels at Dahlke and South Fremont beat both SR and AF this weekend at HCC so I don't know how you could rank Buhl ahead of any of the three at this point. But...it's still early and Buhl has the horse power to change that.
It is short sighted to put too much stock into dual meets. Especially, the 1st weekend of the season many schools/kids struggled this year to get 10 practices in over the holidays. Buhl alone lost 2 days of practice due to an unforeseen emergency 2 day school closure. Duals always have lots of forfeits which are not true wins, just because there's a forfeit doesn't mean the team doesn't have a wrestler at that weight. It's also common for all teams to bump kids to weights they don't normally wrestle or throw a JV wrestler in for experience.
A lot of it of course is how many hammers you have BUT a ton of it is how many of your JV kids will score you points and every one knows that south Fremont is 2 to 3 deep in most of there weight just look at how tuff there JV team is they could beat a lot of varsity teams so tell me how many points the jv kids from buhl/ American falls/ weiser/ snake river and sugar will score because I think that’s what it’s going to come down to it’s a race to 200 points at state in my opinion there is only a couple teams that can get there
